Caracas, 17 July 2026 - The Government of the Republic of Korea has approved a USD 3 million humanitarian contribution, channelled through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to support debris clearance and waste management activities, complement the ongoing response led by national authorities, and facilitate the early recovery of communities affected by the 24 June seismic sequence in Venezuela.

The initiative will complement national efforts to facilitate the recovery of affected areas and connect the immediate response with rehabilitation, the restoration of services, and resilient reconstruction.

Activities will focus on the most affected and vulnerable municipalities in La Guaira, the Capital District, and Miranda, with an emphasis on debris clearance and waste management, as well as restoring access to essential community services, supporting household recovery, and strengthening institutional and community capacities. The initiative is expected to directly benefit 47,350 people and indirectly benefit an additional 176,800 people.

“We are deeply grateful to the Government and people of the Republic of Korea for this important expression of solidarity with Venezuela. This humanitarian contribution will support the safe clearance of affected areas and help translate international cooperation into tangible results for communities: services restored, safer spaces, opportunities to recover incomes, and stronger capacities to advance a dignified, safe, inclusive, and sustainable recovery,” said Luis Francisco Thais, UNDP Resident Representative in Venezuela.

Implementation will be carried out in coordination with national, regional, and municipal authorities, affected communities, civil society organizations, United Nations agencies, and other humanitarian and recovery actors. Collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and other Korean partners will also facilitate technical exchanges and enhance the visibility of the results achieved.

This contribution reinforces UNDP’s support for national efforts to move from humanitarian response toward early recovery that restores services, revitalizes local economies, reduces risks, and places people and communities at the centre of the recovery process.
