The event formed part of the Climate Aggregation Platform (CAP), which is a Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded project that seeks to advance and raise awareness for innovative solutions to market barriers for financial aggregation – with the goal to increase access to low-cost financing for low-carbon energy in developing countries.

Workshop on Market Development for Financial Aggregation for Small-Scale Renewable Energy in Uganda

The workshop promoted innovative solutions to overcome market barriers in financial aggregation, with the objective of increasing access to low-cost financing for low-carbon energy in Uganda. It included presentations on a study about the potential for decentralized renewable energy (DRE) financial aggregation, discussions on improving financial reporting, data management, and customer creditworthiness assessment for DRE companies to attract investments.

Workshop on Innovative Finance for Distributed Renewable Energy

The workshop facilitated discussions between stakeholders in the energy and finance sectors to explore innovative financing solutions for small-scale renewable energy projects. It provided a platform for over 50 participants including government officials, development partners, private sector actors, civil society organizations, academia, and others to share knowledge and experiences, identify challenges, and propose solutions for renewable energy financing.

Linking Global Finance to Small-Scale Clean Energy: Report Launch and Panel Discussion

The webinar presented the report that analyses potential links between global finance to small-scale clean energy projects in developing countries. The analysis identifies key barriers, market enablers, case studies, insights and recommendations to wider adoption of financial aggregation as a means to enable capital flows at scale toward small-scale low carbon energy initiatives.

National Renewable Energy Platform (NREP) Stakeholders Meeting

UNDP worked closely with the MEMD to support the establishment of the National Renewable Energy Platform (NREP) to strengthen collective action, curtail duplication of efforts and enhance resource mobilization for the development of the renewable energy sector in Uganda. UNDP notably helped organize the first NREP ‘Stakeholders Meeting’ in Kampala in June 2022 with over 120 participants.

Side-event as part of the High-Level Dialogue on Energy Ministerial Forum: Financing solar at the last mile: perceived challenges, risks and opportunities

The webinar hosted by UNDP and the International Renewable Energy Agency addressed the challenges in financing decentralized renewable energy projects for last-mile electricity access. It emphasized the need for innovative financing mechanisms and collaboration between organizations mobilize capital and accelerate the transition to renewable energy solutions in developing countries, where it is most needed.
