Growing up in a low-income household in Chattogram, Kowcher Akhter Tahin faced more than just economic hardship. At a young age, she lost the use of her right leg due to typhoid fever. While many saw her disability as a limitation, Kowcher turned it into her greatest source of strength.

Despite community discouragement, her parents ensured she stayed in school. After passing her SSC exams, her father enrolled her in computer training courses—a decision that would change her life. In 2013, Kowcher joined the 34 No Ward Nagar Digital Centre, where she later received entrepreneurship training under the UNDP-supported a2i project.

Armed with knowledge, ambition, and unshakeable resilience, Kowcher started her own digital services business. Today, she earns between Taka 30,000 to 40,000 per month and has become a pillar of empowerment in her community. She didn’t stop with personal success—she brought others along the way.

She employed her sister, created jobs for five to six others, and was recognized as one of Bangladesh’s top 300 entrepreneurs in 2018. For many in Chattogram, she is a symbol of what’s possible when opportunity meets courage.

"I overcame many obstacles on the way to being an entrepreneur but didn’t stop. Because I was determined that I must do something good," says Kowcher.

From being told to give up on education to becoming a digital leader and employer, her story shines as a beacon of inclusive entrepreneurship and gender equality.
