Persistent concerns about anti-competitive practices, price manipulation, and market distortions—particularly against the backdrop of sustained inflationary pressure and growing market concentration—have brought the issue of competition regulation in Bangladesh into sharp focus. Despite significant economic growth over the past two decades, driven predominantly by private sector dynamism, questions remain as to whether such growth has been underpinned by a fair, transparent, and rules-based competitive environment that protects consumer welfare and ensures efficient resource allocation.
