Statistical Training Needs Assessment (STAT)
Statistical Training Needs Assessment (STAT)
April 29, 2026
The Statistical Training Needs Assessment (STAT) Report presents the findings of the first comprehensive, organization-wide assessment of skills, learning gaps and training priorities of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). Drawing on responses from officials at BBS headquarters and field offices nationwide, the report provides an evidence-based picture of current competencies spanning statistical production, digital tools, data governance and organizational support functions.
The findings confirm a highly educated and motivated workforce, while identifying clear priorities for strengthening capacity in modern statistical methods, software and communication of statistics. The report translates these findings into a strategic roadmap for competency development, including a sequenced institutional learning plan and a pathway toward establishing a BBS Training Academy.
This assessment was conducted under UNDP's Strengthening Institutions, Policies and Services (SIPS) project, in partnership with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh.
