The 5th ASEAN-China-UNDP Symposium: Enhancing the Roles of Youth in Achieving SDGs

Background

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are working together to convene a symposium to center on the reinforcing relationship between Sustainable Development Goals SDGs and youth, taking into account the impacts of COVID-19. Designed as a forum where ASEAN Member States and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region can freely exchange knowledge, broaden horizons of possibilities, and identify opportunities for collaborative experimentation.

Experience

The event will take place online via video conference and aims to achieve the following objectives:

  •   Provide a platform for policy makers and stakeholders to share experiences, and exchange views and strategies on enhancing the roles of youth in SDGs implementation and addressing priority areas such as Youth and young female employment and skills development in a post COVID-19 world.
  •  Empower youth to participate in policy discourse on sustainable development and to listen and recognise their perspective.
  •  Provide recommendations on how to create a framework to utilize and strengthen the reinforcing relationship between the SDGs and youth empowerment, taking into account the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Expected Outcome

The symposium is expected to produce a set of recommendations to inform ways forward to engage youth in development as well as to accelerate SDG implementation, and to ensure that they can benefit from development progress.

 

Young entrepreneurs advancing the SDGs in ASEAN
