Spotlight Initiative
The substantial contribution of UNDP in the Spotlight Initiative framework.
Overview:
The Spotlight Initiative was a global partnership between the European Union and the United Nations to eliminate violence against women and girls worldwide. In Latin America, and particularly in Argentina, the initiative focused on eliminating femicide.
The initiative was implemented between 2019 and 2023 under the leadership of the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, through six UN agencies: UNDP, ILO, UNFPA, UN Women, UNICEF, and UNODC.
Activities were carried out at the national level and in three provinces: Buenos Aires, Salta, and Jujuy.
The contribution of the UNDP Argentina Country Office within the framework of the Spotlight Initiative focused on developing and strengthening comprehensive support services, access to justice, and healthcare services for women experiencing gender-based violence. The initiative promoted the accessibility and quality of these services through an intersectional approach, with particular attention to Indigenous and/or rural women, non-Spanish-speaking women, women from diverse backgrounds, and persons with disabilities.
