Iniciativa Spotlight
The substantial contribution of UNDP in the Spotlight Initiative framework.
Overview:
The Spotlight Initiative has been a global alliance between the European Union and United Nations to eradicate violence against women and girls worldwide. In Latin America, and particularly in Argentina, the focus was set in the eradication of femicides. The initiative was implemented in between 2019 and 2023, under the leadership of the United Nations Office for Resident Coordination through six agencies; UNDP; ILO; UNFP; UN Women; UNICEF; UNODC. The actions were carried out at the national level and in three provinces: Buenos Aires, Salta and Jujuy.
The contribution of the UNDP Office in Argentina in the framework of the Spotlight Initiative consisted on the development and strengthening of comprehensive care services, access to justice and health services for women in situations of gender-based violence, promoting accessibility and the quality of services from an intersectional perspective, with special focus on indigenous and/or rural women, non-Spanish speakers, in the diversity group and people with disabilities.

In addition, intervention lines in masculinities were developed, aimed at men who exercise gender-based violence, police and security forces, as well as men from indigenous communities.

It should also be noted that UNDP Argentina developed the First Survey on the Prevalence of Violence against Women for 12 Argentine provinces, which represents a before and after in terms of the production of information for the design of evidence-based public policies.
