Sustaining Peace Through Insider Mediation in Arab States
The Sustaining Peace Through Insider Mediation in the Arab States project, launched in January 2023, empowers trusted, local actors to foster peace in their communities. Supported by the UNDP and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the project leverages Insider Mediators—individuals rooted in their communities who use their close ties and trust to mediate conflicts. Currently piloted in Jordan, Lebanon, and Sudan, the project aims to strengthen Insider Mediation practices, foster conditions for sustainable peace, and elevate the role of these mediators on national, regional, and global platforms.
What we do
The project supports Insider Mediators in building peace from the ground up by providing critical resources such as skills training, logistical support, and mental health resources. By creating a Regional Network for Insider Mediators, we enable knowledge sharing across the Arab States, with over 70 mediators already supported in Jordan, Sudan, and Lebanon. These mediators work on diverse issues—from host-IDP relations to countering online hate speech—demonstrating the broad and transformative impact of localized peacebuilding.
