UNDP and MSMEDA launch a new coordination mechanism to support green entrepreneurship and accelerate Egypt's green transition

Cairo, Egypt – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) launched today the “Green Link Task Force”, a multi-stakeholder platform designed to convene key actors across Egypt’s green economy and align efforts to accelerate the country’s green transition.
The launch took place during the inaugural Green Link Task Force roundtable, bringing together representatives from government institutions, entrepreneurship support organizations (ESOs), development partners, members of the international community, financial institutions, academia, civil society, and green enterprises to explore opportunities for strengthening collaboration in support of green entrepreneurship and green micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Egypt.
As Egypt advances its sustainable development and climate ambitions under Egypt Vision 2030 and the National Climate Change Strategy, significant efforts are being made across green innovation, climate technologies, sustainable finance, green skills development, and enterprise support. However, stronger coordination is needed to connect these efforts, align priorities, and translate innovation and investment into greater impact for green enterprises.
The Green Link Task Force was established to address this challenge by creating a consultative and coordination mechanism that brings together government institutions, ecosystem support organizations, financial institutions, academia, civil society, development partners, youth actors, and green enterprises to strengthen collaboration, exchange knowledge, and advance practical solutions that enable green MSMEs to grow and scale.
CEO of MSMEDA Bassel Rahmy affirmed that UNDP Egypt and MSMEDA have launched this Green Link Taskforce to express their shared commitment to advancing innovation, strengthening partnerships and supporting the growth of green enterprises as key drivers of sustainable development, job creation, and climate resilience in Egypt.
“At MSMEDA, we believe that the transition to a green economy represents not only an environmental imperative but also a significant opportunity for economic growth, innovation, and job creation. Micro, small, and medium enterprises are at the heart of this transition. They have the potential to drive sustainable solutions, create green jobs, and contribute meaningfully to Egypt’s climate and development objectives,” Rahmy said.
“In line with Egypt Vision 2030 and the national agenda for sustainable development, MSMEDA is committed to supporting entrepreneurs and enterprises in adopting greener business models, improving resource efficiency and accessing new market opportunities,” CEO of MSMEDA added.
“Egypt’s green transition presents a unique opportunity to drive sustainable economic growth, create jobs, and foster innovation,” said Chitose Noguchi, UNDP Egypt Resident Representative. “Through the Green Link Task Force, we are creating a space for partners across the ecosystem to align priorities, share knowledge, and mobilize collective action that can translate ambition into tangible impact. By working together, we can create a more enabling environment for green enterprises and MSMEs to start, grow, and scale, and accelerate Egypt’s journey toward a more resilient and sustainable future,” she added.
Through strategic partnerships, shared knowledge, and coordinated action, the Green Link Task Force will help strengthen Egypt’s green economy ecosystem and create a more enabling environment for green enterprises to start, grow, and scale. The Task Force will serve as a space to identify common priorities, strengthen the capacities of ecosystem actors, facilitate partnerships, and support the development of solutions that unlock green growth, innovation, and decent employment opportunities.
