AGRHYMET Regional Centre: Capacity assessment

AGRHYMET Regional Centre: Capacity assessment

March 15, 2023

The AGRHYMET Regional Centre (ARC) was established in 1974 as a specialized institute of the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS). A cooperation agreement signed in 2020 between ECOWAS and CILSS designated it the Regional Climate Centre for West Africa and the Sahel. This capacity assessment was undertaken under the auspices of UNDP's Sahel Resilience Project with financial support from Sweden. It aimed to assess the Centre's partnership opportunities and development prospects and its activity as a climate information centre for the sub-region. The assessment focuses on information exchange capacities, existing services and databases, and upgrading needs for the Centre to best serve its role as a regional climate and disaster risk data facility for the Sahel. This report is available in English and French.
