High Level Dialogue: 7 November 2019, Accra

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will be organizing a High Level Dialogue in Accra, Ghana. The Government of Ghana is co-hosting the event with UNDP. The dialogue brings together leading actors in business, culture, media, arts, technology, innovation, traditional leaders as well as youth, women entrepreneurs, traders and environmentalists. 

Date: 7 November 2019

Venue: Kempinski Hotel,Accra

The event will be hosted by the President of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. It is expected that over 200 participants including senior UNDP leadership team in Africa, will attend the dialogue.

The dialogue aims to: 

  • support thought leadership about Africa’s development towards a self sustaining future, focusing on “Africa Beyond Aid”.
  • provide intellectual and analytical insights for the new Africa Continental Free Trade Resource Centre (AfCFTA).
  • raise visibility and create momentum about Africa's vision for future prosperity.
  • foster new partnerships and create allies for Africa's transformation agenda.

Why Ghana?

Across Africa, there is a rising demand for new forms of transformational leadership, which begins with a distinct change in mindsets and a renewed commitment to do things differently. In response to that call, President Akufo-Addo has taken up the mantle of leadership for promoting self reliance and pan-African unity.

In addition, Ghana is the birthplace of Kwame Nkrumah, President of Ghana and considered one of the “fathers” of pan African unity. The country has also been chosen by the AU to be the host for the African Free Trade Agreement Resource Centre.

UNDP Partnership Strategy for Africa

The high level dialogue falls within UNDP’s strategic offer for Africa, to engage with African leaders and influencers, to drive sustainable development across the continent. As part of the partnership strategy, UNDP recently launched the African Influencers for Development (AID) initiative, at the 74th UN General Assembly in New York. The AID initiative brought together powerful coalition of current and future African leaders in business, academia & the arts on one big platform to help Africa steer its own development agenda.
