Computer Labs in Schools of Mussahi and Istalif Districts, Kabul Province
January 24, 2026
UNDP launched Digital Corners in schools located in the Istalif and Mussahi districts of Kabul province, Afghanistan. These hubs bring computer devices, specialized teachers, tailored curriculums, and internet access directly to students, placing emphasis on empowering young girls in schools already equipped with solar energy solutions through UNDP's SESEHA project. The program took a thoughtful approach by providing dedicated female instructors for two months, covering November and December 2025. A curated curriculum was developed to introduce basic computer skills, including software and hardware operations, internet use, and online safety measures.
In Istalif school, the program enrolled 20 students, 11 of them achieved good results during the final assessment, a remarkable achievement given the brief two-month training period and the fact that many students had no prior experience with computers. Furthermore, 12 teachers were enrolled, 6 of whom displayed great achievements and were trained to ensure the program's sustainability, enabling them to teach independently in the future.
Similarly, in Mussahi school, 41 students participated in the program, and 27 achieved outstanding results in their final assessments. The school also enrolled 11 teachers, 9 of whom displayed great achievements, showcasing their capability to continue teaching digital skills to new learners.
Several key lessons emerged from this initiative. The interest among students was extraordinarily high, resulting in classes being filled beyond their capacity. The overwhelming interest highlighted the potential of Digital Corners as transformative learning spaces in schools. Additionally, the high demand for these resources indicates the necessity of establishing larger, more robust digital corners and computer labs with increased access to devices and training opportunities. With thoughtful expansion and continued investment, programs like these have the potential to transform the educational landscape and open doors for countless students to succeed in the digital age.
In January, the digital corners were handed over to the school principals, who committed to using all the equipment in the digital corners exclusively for educational purposes within the schools.
