UNDP boosts economic prosperity and food security through support to agricultural productivity, innovative financial solutions for farmers and MSMEs and the creation of an enabling policy environment. We also restore value chains and generate inclusive job opportunities people across Sudan.

For smallholder farmers and home-gardening households we provide farmer field schools, micro-grants, savings schemes and new job opportunities. For young people, we offer vocational training and employment, including on cash-for-work programs. Our support to women includes vocational training and digital financial literacy programmes, as well as help to access markets, including through market fairs that spur local economic growth.

We also improve water and irrigation services through solarized water yards and install solar-powered streetlights to improve safety and mobility for women.

Main achievements in 2025:

  • 1.75m people improved incomes through support for agriculture and MSMSs, as well as cash-for-work programmes, helping communities recover from shocks and strengthen local value chains.

  • 25,000 women moved from subsistence to sustainable income generation, strengthened asset ownership, and increased control over household and community resources.
