This assessment was commissioned by UNDP South Africa to comprehensively map public financing mechanisms available to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in South Africa. The study responds to a critical gap identified in existing literature: while the MSME finance gap in South Africa is well-documented at approximately R590 billion (IFC, 2018), no comprehensive supply-side mapping of available public financing mechanisms has previously existed.
