Brief Description of Project
BIOFIN is a global initiative of the United Nations Development Programme, launched in 2012 and now active in more than 130 countries. It tackles the challenge of financing biodiversity conservation by providing technical support to develop and implement effective biodiversity finance strategies. BIOFIN helps countries assess financial needs, identify inefficiencies in spending, and mobilize additional resources.
The project aims to support a global programme that will establish a transformative process for biodiversity finance in all participating eligible countries, involving all relevant stakeholders such as Ministries of Finance and Environment, and the private and financial sectors through a socially and gender-inclusive approach. The project will support the country in baseline diagnostics, capacity and institutional strengthening, and developing finance plans to mobilize resources at scale to implement the GBF.
