Good governance is the very basis of development and security. On the other hand, poor governance, state violence and corruption are among the main drivers of violent extremism.
UNDP works to understand how to better address governance grievances underpinning individuals’ choice to engage in violent extremism at the same time, help Country Offices work with Members states to develop sustainable PVE National Action Plans. This helps Member States to address the drivers of violent extremism, through investments in human rights-based development solutions.

UNDP collaborates and engages with national, local, government stakeholders, representatives of law enforcement agencies, civil society actors, and human rights defenders, as government actions, accompanies by human rights abuses, can trigger, fuel, and accelerate recruitment by violent extremism actors.
