As violence intensifies and civilian casualties rise, I am deeply saddened and concerned about the tragic loss of lives and the wellbeing of people in Israel and Gaza in the occupied Palestinian territory. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of all those affected.
As we have tragically witnessed in any conflict, there are grave repercussions for the lives and the livelihoods of entire communities, and long-term effects that will necessitate strong engagement by the international community and the United Nations. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is present on the ground and stands ready to provide the support needed by the impacted communities.
We join the UN Secretary General’s call for an immediate end to all hostilities. Every effort must be exhausted to prevent further violence and devastation of lives and livelihoods.
