Social Protection Policy Paper II: Dynamic Social Registries in Social Protection

Best Practices and Recommendations

Social registries have been defined as information systems that support outreach, intake, registration, and determination of potential eligibility of applicants for one or more social programmes. These registries can be conceived as social policy tools offering a gateway for potential inclusion into a governmental social protection programme, as well as serving - operationally and functionally - as information systems. In this regard, in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, UNDP has produced a policy paper that explores the existing registry mechanism in the country, discusses global practices, and advocates for a shift towards a dynamic social registry mechanism.
