What is Risk-Informed Development?

Pacific Island Countries have articulated national and regional visions for resilient development that prioritize a safe and vibrant future for Pacific people. While much progress has been made, PICs are still facing considerable economic and social challenges and development progress is being reversed by the impacts of climate change and disasters.

There is clear recognition that climate and disaster risks are fundamental development issues. Not only do they impact development initiatives, but our development choices can also be drivers of climate change and disaster risks. We need to develop everything better in the first place by systematically considering risks in all our development decision making.

We call this ‘risk-informed development’.
