Coloi-Naivakacere Primary School Access Road Project Brief

August 8, 2022

In the past, school children, teachers, parents and guardians found it difficult to access the Coloi-Naivakacere Primary School, especially during heavy rains. This was due to the school’s location atop a steep hill accessible by a dirt track which was slippery and dangerous during rains. The school requested the development of a road from the Commissioner Centrals Office, funded under its Community Access Road, Footpaths and Footbridges Programme in 2021.

The new road provides 300m of concrete access from the junction of Vatukarasa Road to the school. In partnership with UNDP through the Governance for Resilience in the Pacific project, it was ensured that climate change, disaster and gender and social considerations were part of the community consultation process, the financing, and the implementation phases of the project.

Now, students can safely commute to school; with railings, parents can comfortably access the school to prepare food every day, and during times of emergency access to and from the school is ensured.
