Multidimensional Poverty Survey 2023 - Sudan Report

Multidimensional Poverty Survey 2023 - Sudan Report

July 26, 2026

Sudan has launched its first national Multidimensional Poverty Survey (S-MPS 2023), providing the country's most comprehensive picture of poverty and identifying clear priorities for recovery, social protection and long-term development.

Developed by the Sudan Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), the survey generated the Sudan Multidimensional Poverty Index 2023 (S-MPI 2023), recognizing that poverty extends well beyond income alone.

The report establishes the first national baseline for tracking the breadth and depth of multidimensional poverty in Sudan. Using a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), the analysis measures how people experience overlapping deprivations across fourteen indicators spanning health, education, living standards and employment.
