The Morocco rollout of the women's leadership academy for the digital era
July 12, 2026
The United Nations Development Programme, through the Arab States Partnership for Inclusive Rights and Elections (ASPIRE) and with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), concluded the Morocco Rollout of the Women's Leadership Academy for the Digital Era from 24 to 26 June 2026 in Casablanca.
Implemented by UNDP Morocco with support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the three-day programme brought together 20 Moroccan women leaders from public institutions, civil society, academia, the private sector, and other sectors to strengthen leadership capacities for navigating digital transformation and advancing inclusive governance.
Developed under Output 3 of ASPIRE, that focuses on strengthening inclusive participation and women's leadership, the Academy builds on previous global editions held in Doha, and Marrakesh. The Morocco Rollout adapted the Academy's methodology to the Moroccan context while maintaining its collaborative learning approach, experiential methodology, and emphasis on peer exchange.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in sessions on transformational leadership, artificial intelligence and digital governance, strategic communication, leadership in volatile and rapidly changing environments (VUCA), online violence against women, intergenerational mentorship, and leadership roadmap development. Through expert presentations, interactive workshops, practical exercises, storytelling dialogues, and peer learning, participants strengthened their capacity to lead institutional change while promoting inclusive and rights-based digital transformation.
A distinctive feature of the Morocco Rollout was the participation of Academy alumnae as facilitators, co-facilitators, speakers, and mentors. Their involvement contributed to contextualizing the curriculum, fostering peer learning, and strengthening collaboration between participants and the Academy's growing alumnae network.
Reflecting on her experience, participant Zeineb Loudghiri said:
“This Academy has inspired me to push beyond my limits and strive higher than I ever imagined.”
The Morocco Rollout forms part of the continued implementation of the Women's Leadership Academy for the Digital Era, which has brought together women leaders from governments, parliaments, electoral management bodies, civil society organizations, academia, media, and the private sector. Through its alumnae network, participants continue to exchange knowledge, contribute to future Academy editions, and strengthen collaboration across countries and regions.
Following the conclusion of the Morocco Rollout, the Academy's first regional edition for Latin America and the Caribbean launched in Panama, adapting the Academy's learning methodology to regional priorities while continuing to strengthen women's leadership in the digital era.
