Entrepreneurship and vocational skills are crucial for economic growth and poverty reduction, especially in Ghana, where MSMEs make up over 90% of businesses and employ more than 80% of the workforce. However, challenges such as limited resources, lack of formalization, and restricted access to training hinder growth—particularly in the informal sector. Young people and women in rural areas face the greatest barriers, with youth unemployment in Northern Ghana at 36%, nearly double the national average. Women are further disadvantaged by labour market biases, limited access to land and finance in agriculture, and the disproportionate effects of climate change. This study explores women’s livelihoods in Lambussie and West Gonja Districts to identify income sources, skill interests, and barriers to economic participation, aiming to inform strategies for women’s economic empowerment.
