What we do

UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in some 170 countries and territories, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

UNDP has been supporting the Government and people of Nigeria in addressing development challenges, through strengthening and building institutions that promote inclusive sustainable development and democratic governance. We work work an array of partners as we work together to support the Nigeria meet her Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promise.

The Power of Partnerships in Restoring Peace and Stability in Conflict-Affected Communities

Gwoza's story is one of resilience in the face of immense adversity. At the height of the insurgency, the territory was overrun, public institutions collapsed and residents were forced to flee. Families lost their homes, livelihoods and in many cases, loved ones. The social and economic fabric of the dwellers was severely damaged. Yet Gwoza refused to remain defined by its past. Over time, displaced residents began returning. What started as a gradual trickle soon became a steady movement of families determined to rebuild their lives and reclaim their future. Their return signaled more than physical resettlement. It reflected renewed confidence in the possibility of recovery. This transformation has been supported through the Regional Stabilization Facility (RSF) Nigeria window implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with funding from the Governments of Germany, Sweden, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the European Union and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
