Strengthening Capacity for Biodiversity Finance in Malawi
Strengthening Capacity for Biodiversity Finance in Malawi
July 28, 2026
Through the UNDP-led Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), Malawi is strengthening the institutional, technical and financial capacity needed to address its estimated annual biodiversity financing requirement of USD 100 million. The initiative supports government institutions, financial regulators, commercial banks and private-sector actors to identify financing opportunities, diversify revenue streams, improve resource management and integrate nature-related considerations into policies, regulations and financial instruments. By building financial literacy, promoting biodiversity-friendly incentives and mobilising both public and private investment, BIOFIN is helping Malawi develop sustainable solutions to protect ecosystems and close the biodiversity finance gap.
