    UNDP Malawi Resident Representative

    Fenella Frost is the Resident Representative for UNDP Malawi. Directly prior to her arrival in Malawi, Fenella served in UNDP HQ as Acting Chief of the Regional Bureau for Africa’s Country Office Oversight Team. 

     

    Fenella served as UNDP Resident Representative to the Union of Comoros between 2019-2022.  She was UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in the Republic of Cameroon from 2016 to 2019. 

     

    Fenella joined UNDP in 2005, leading the disaster risk reduction and resilience team in Haiti (2010-2016) and supporting disaster risk reduction and resilience issues for UNDP’s Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery in Geneva (2005-2010). Prior to joining UNDP, she worked for the UK’s Department for International Development as lead advisor on disaster reduction (2000-2005). 

     

    Fenella started her career working in post-conflict contexts in the Balkans on recovery and governance programming and institutional development with NGOs and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. 

     

    Fenella studied International Relations at the University of St Andrews and the London School of Economics and Political Science.  She is a New Zealand national, born in the United Kingdom.  Fenella is mother to Jamie who has accompanied her to Malawi.

    Dr. Chika Charles Aniekwe

    UNDP Malawi DEPUTY Resident Representative

    Dr. Chika Charles Aniekwe is a seasoned international development expert with over two decades of experience in democratic governance, peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and resilience programming across Africa.

    Currently serving as the Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP Malawi, Dr. Aniekwe has held pivotal roles within the United Nations and the African Union, including as Director for Stabilisation in Somalia and Senior Advisor to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), where he led the rollout of a $250 million Regional Stabilisation Facility.

    His career spans diverse contexts—from post-conflict nations like Sierra Leone and Chad to emerging economies such as Ghana and Nigeria—demonstrating a deep commitment to sustainable peace and development. 

    Dr. Aniekwe holds a PhD in Development Studies, a Master’s in International Development from the University of Bradford, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science. He is also a fellow at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada. He is also an Adjunct Professor of International Studies at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD UBIDS), Ghana. 

    He has made significant contributions that have helped advance thinking and interventions in the areas of peace and security, governance, and development.
