101 Real-World Blockchain Use Cases Handbook 2026 Edition

August 5, 2026

Malawi’s contribution in the handbook is highlighted through the blockchain-enabled Digital ID Wallet being developed by UNDP Malawi and the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC). Building on Malawi’s national ID system, which has already registered over 13 million citizens, the project aims to transform physical IDs into a secure, privacy-preserving digital identity that citizens can use across public and private services. Through a mobile wallet, users can access and share verifiable credentials such as national IDs, driving licences, birth certificates, pension certificates, and marriage certificates, while service providers can instantly verify them.
