Disaster Risk Management Programme Support

Project Overview

The project was conceptualized to support the establishment of policy and regulatory frameworks, build the capacity of national and district level authorities to improve DRM, with the objective of reducing future hazard impacts and ensuring effective humanitarian response.  Fundamental to this project is the mainstreaming of DRR in government policies, programmes and training to ensure risk-informed development.

Project Goal

To strengthen Disaster Risk Management (DRM) systems and enhance effective management of the impact of disaster risks within the context of sustainable development.

Project output

  • Mainstreaming of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) in policies, plans and development processes.
  • Data collection and knowledge management on the impact of natural disasters made available to decision makers in Government, Private Sector, Civil Society and Communities.
  • Strengthening of coordination mechanisms and implementation arrangements for DRM at national and district level in 15 disaster prone districts
  • Capacity development of multi-sector emergency preparedness, response and recovery at national, district and community level to reduce vulnerability and disaster losses.
