Malawi’s first innovation hub; M-Hub, has partnered with Growth-Africa - a leading African Accelerator - to implement a project that aims at supporting innovative entrepreneurs with financial and technical assistance in a bid to scale up their ventures.
Known as the Growth Accelerator Entrepreneurship Challenge, the project will support these innovative and impactful Malawian enterprises as a way to contribute towards the United Nations (UN’s) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 8 and 9.
In the project which is being implemented with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Royal Norwegian Embassy, selected applicants stand a chance to access up to 40,000USD in financing, coupled with rigorous technical assistance from experienced mentors and experts.
The Growth Accelerator is targeting early-stage Malawian entrepreneurs who have a registered business in Malawi with a proto-type ready to scale up.
To be considered in the project, the entrepreneurs would also need to have a market-fit product that will satisfy the Malawian market and ultimately create social impact.
“The potential is within Malawi. Entrepreneurs need to leverage this partnership,” said the UNDP Resident Representative in Malawi, Ms. Maria Jose Torres, during the initiative’s launching ceremony that took place on 4th July 2018.
In his remarks, Ian Lorenzen of Growth-Africa disclosed that the Growth Accelerator Entrepreneurship Challenge will involve monthly workshop sessions that will nurture and develop different aspects of businesses including Peer-to-Peer learning and investment readiness.
