Democracies Under Pressure: Launch in Uruguay
On May 11, in Montevideo, we will present our new Report on Democracy and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The most democratic region in the developing world today faces a double pressure: long-standing structural challenges, such as economic and gender inequality, which combine with emerging threats such as misinformation, rapid technological change, the climate crisis, and the expansion of organized crime.
"Democracies Under Pressure. Reimagining the Futures of Democracy and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean" offers diagnoses and proposals to strengthen democratic systems capable of processing conflict, channeling citizens' demands, and contributing to resilient human development.
The launch in Uruguay is the first in a series of regional events to be held during May and June in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala.
