Kuwait, 25 May 2026 - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Sheikh Abdallah Al Nouri Charity Society signed today a USD 1 million agreement to support the emergency rehabilitation of partially damaged housing units in the Gaza Strip, helping displaced Palestinian families regain access to safe and dignified living conditions amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The partnership will support the rehabilitation of 200 partially damaged housing units across Gaza and aims to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their communities by restoring essential living spaces and reconnecting homes to basic services, including water and sanitation. The project is expected to directly benefit approximately 1,200 displaced people, with priority given to women-headed households and families with persons with disabilities.

This partnership demonstrates the important role philanthropic institutions can play in mobilizing support for communities affected by crisis. By working together, we are helping restore dignified living conditions for displaced families in Gaza while supporting broader efforts toward resilience and recovery. Kuwait continues to play an important role in advancing solidarity and development support for vulnerable communities regionally and globally.” Ms Emma Morley, UNDP Kuwait Resident Representative.

The intervention forms part of UNDP’s integrated area-based recovery approach in Gaza, which links emergency response with early recovery and longer-term resilience. In addition to rehabilitating damaged homes, the project will support reconnection to municipal water and sewage networks and contribute to restoring basic community infrastructure.

Eng. Jamal Abdulkhaleq Al Nouri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheikh Abdullah Al Nouri Charity Society, stated: “This agreement builds on the longstanding humanitarian role played by the State of Kuwait and its charitable institutions in supporting humanitarian causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.” He emphasized that “the devastating conditions facing the people of Gaza require urgent and sustainable humanitarian and development support. Rebuilding lives and ensuring dignified living conditions for affected families reflects Kuwait’s longstanding humanitarian values and its commitment to standing alongside people in need around the world.”

The project reflects the importance of partnerships in responding to urgent humanitarian needs while supporting early recovery and longer-term resilience efforts in Gaza. By supporting the rehabilitation of homes within original neighborhoods, the initiative aims to strengthen social cohesion, reduce prolonged displacement, and support communities in rebuilding their lives with dignity.
