Kuwait, 8 September 2026 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) assessed Kuwait’s artificial intelligence landscape to identify opportunities and priorities for the responsible use of AI.  

As AI adoption accelerates, understanding where it can add the greatest value, and what is needed to use it responsibly, is increasingly important. The assessment will provide a clearer picture of Kuwait’s current AI landscape, including existing capabilities, opportunitiesand gaps, to help inform future priorities and decisions.  

“AI offers Kuwait new ways to improve public services, boost productivity and support innovation. How Kuwait benefits from AI will depend on the choices made and the capabilities built around it. Our focus is on ensuring that progress in AI supports Kuwait’s development and delivers meaningful benefits for people,” said Ms. Emma Morley, UNDP Resident Representative in Kuwait.  

The assessment focuses on three connected areas: Kuwait’s broader AI ecosystem, the use of AI in government, and AI regulation and ethics. As part of this work, UNDP and CAIT convened representatives from government, the private sector, academia, civil society and development partners to contribute their experience and perspectives. Their input will help identify where opportunities exist, what challenges need attention and what may be needed to move forward.

Developed by the UNDP, the AI Landscape Assessment (AILA) is a diagnostic tool that helps countries evaluate their readiness to adopt and govern artificial intelligence responsibly. By bringing together the perspectives of government, the private sector, and civil society, it points to the gaps we need to close as we move forward. Such collaboration reflects the very spirit that a transformation of this scale requires.” said Mr Abdulkarim Alfouzan

The findings from the assessment and the perspectives gathered will help establish a stronger evidence base for the next steps. For Kuwait, this will help identify where AI can contribute most effectively to better public services, productivity and innovation, while informing future priorities for its responsible use.
