The report outlines a strategic plan derived from the NAMA Baseline Report focusing on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction in key sectors, emphasizing economic non-disruption, alignment with sustainable development goals, and the need for mitigation to combat the increasing adverse impacts of climate change.
The document complementing Iraq’s 2030 Vision and NDC, which includes various mitigation measures such as reducing flaring, improving monitoring, enhancing energy efficiency, and expanding renewable energy, with the goal of creating a greener and more resilient Iraq in line with its commitments under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.
The NAMA Strategic Planning is a dynamic approach that balances socio-economic development with global GHG mitigation efforts, aligning with the Paris Agreement’s principles, supporting key articles, and enhancing transparency through the NAMA MRV System and Carbon Registry, while its five pillars focus on leveraging support, sectoral approaches, Vision 2030 integration, blended finance, and strengthening the GHG inventory; within this framework, Iraq’s NAMA Strategy prioritizes renewable energy transition, energy efficiency improvement, sustainable land use, forest management, and climate resilience and adaptation to effectively address climate challenges and promote sustainable development.
