Minister of Interior Honors UNDP Iraq at Annual Conference on Community Policing and Sectorial Security
September 21, 2025
Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Interior, the Annual Conference on Community Policing and Sectorial Security was held on Wednesday, 17 September 2025.
During the event, His Excellency personally honored the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq with the Ministry’s shield, a recognition of the genuine and effective partnership between UNDP and the Ministry of Interior.

This honor reflects years of joint efforts to strengthen security institutions, build trust between communities and the police, and advance professional standards of policing across Iraq.
UNDP is proud of its professional partnership with the Ministry of Interior, working hand-in-hand with different directorates and the Police Agency to deliver tangible reforms. Recent milestones include:
- Supporting the development of six Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering key policing areas: Community Policing, Arrest Methods and Suspect Surveillance, Traffic, Protection of Vital Premises, Police Patrol, and Crowd Management.
- Conducting two workshops on the transfer of policing responsibilities across governorates, ensuring smoother security transitions.
- Empowering women in policing through a comprehensive training programme where 120 female officers were trained in leadership and operational skills.
- Collaborating with the Ministry to build a new model of the police role in reintegration, strengthening the police’s ability to support individuals returning to their communities.
- Ongoing collaboration with the Police Agency on designing new sectorial sub-security arrangements, aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and effectiveness in the delivery of policing services to the public.
This recognition from the Ministry of Interior is not only an honor but also a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to building safer, more inclusive communities in Iraq.
