What?

The SCCA “Arabic Moot” is an international commercial arbitration competition designed for Arabic-speaking students from around the world. 
 

When?

Deadline for Team Registration 31 October 2023

Crash Course by UNDP Iraq November 2023

Virtual Hearings (Preliminary Rounds) 10 to 15 February 2024

In-Person Hearings (Advanced Rounds) 3 to 7 March 2024

Awards and Final Ceremony 7 March 2024

 

Where? 

The crash course provided by UNDP will be held in Baghdad, Iraq. Preliminary Rounds will take place online. In-person hearings, Awards and Final Ceremony will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.​
 

Why?

The Arabic Moot is a unique opportunity for law students to study international commercial arbitration in the Arabic language. By attending the moot, students will gain,

  • Knowledge of international commercial arbitration
  • Practical skills of written and oral advocacy
  • Opportunity to attend the Riyadh International Disputes Week
  • Opportunity to network with other law students and leading professionals worldwide. 
     

Who and How?

1. Team up as law students enrolled and in good standing at an Iraqi law college

2. Register for the SCCA Arabic Moot: https://sadr.org/arabicmoot

3. Send a registration confirmation to: hayder.hameed@undp.org

4. Join the Crash Course on arbitration organized by UNDP, 

which will support all registered Iraqi teams to kick-start their preparations

5. Participate in the preliminary virtual rounds of the Arabic Moot

6. Qualify for the advanced rounds and earn the highest score over other Iraqi teams.


 

UNDP will fund the highest-ranking Iraqi team (4 students and 1 coach) of the preliminary hearings, which will qualify for the advanced rounds, covering travel to-from and accommodation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The funding decision will be made following the results of the preliminary hearings in February.

 

Students will be expected to obtain the required visa, for which UNDP will provide support letters.
