Project
Georgia’s Second Biennial Transparency Report and Combined Third Biennial Transparency Report and Sixth National Communication to the UNFCCC
Overview
With funds from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), UNDP supports the Government of Georgia in preparing regular reports to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The 2026-2028 reporting round includes the Second Biennial Transparency Report and the combined Third Biennial Transparency Report and Sixth National Communication.
The current project builds on Georgia’s First Biennial Transparency Report and Fifth National Communication, helping maintain and strengthen the systems and expertise needed to track and communicate progress on Georgia’s climate action.
What we do
UNDP helps Georgia collect, analyse, and report climate-related information in line with the national commitments under the Paris Agreement.
In close partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and its Environmental Information and Education Centre, our support covers key areas of climate policy:
- Maintaining and improving the national greenhouse gas inventory
- Tracking progress towards Georgia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)
- Assessing climate change impacts, vulnerabilities, and adaptation measures
- Documenting climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building support
Expected results
- More robust systems for preparing and managing Georgia’s national greenhouse gas inventory
- Stronger national capacity to track progress towards the country’s climate commitments
- Improved understanding and documentation of climate change impacts, adaptation, and loss and damage
- Better tracking of financial, technology and capacity-building support
- Updated greenhouse gas inventories covering 1990–2024 for the Second Biennial Transparency Report and 1990–2026 for the combined Third Biennial Transparency Report and Sixth National Communication
- Preparation and submission of the Second Biennial Transparency Report and the combined Third Biennial Transparency Report and Sixth National Communication
