Henrik Franklin, a Swedish national, brings over 25 years of extensive experience in international development, focusing on Africa, Asia, and Latin America. His expertise spans strategic and operational management, portfolio management, quality assurance, and change management.
On August 12, 2024, Franklin assumed the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative role in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Before this appointment, he was the Director at the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) in Helsinki, Finland, where he spearheaded climate change initiatives in lower-income countries.
Before joining the NDF in 2021, Mr Franklin held various leadership positions at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), including Lead Portfolio Advisor for the East and Southern Africa Division, member of the Operational Excellence for Results team in the Office of the President, Head of the Andean and Southern Cone Hub, and Head of the Regional Office in Nairobi temporarily.
His career includes stints at the African Development Bank (AfDB) as Chief Quality Assurance Officer and Country Programme Officer in Mozambique. He has also served as a natural resources and environment specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank in Ecuador and Honduras, as well as the headquarters of the European Commission in Vietnam.
Academically, he holds a Master of Science in Biology from Stockholm University in Sweden, complemented by economics and environmental management studies. He is also an Associate Certified Coach, further enhancing his multifaceted expertise.
Nessie Golakai-Gould is a Liberian national with over 25 years of experience in the development sector. Ms. Golakai-Gould has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics combined with a major from the University of Ghana and an M.Sc. in Rural and Urban Planning from the University of Zimbabwe.
She has over 15 years of UNDP-specific experience, having served recently as Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP in Lesotho and before her current assignment in the same portfolio in the Gambia. Previously, she had headed the governance team at UNDP Liberia for over seven years. Before UNDP, she worked with the Consumers International Africa Office; then situated in Zimbabwe as their Trade and Economic Officer supporting advocacy on consumer protection within global and regional trade negotiations and agreements; especially from a developing country perspective. She is an avid gender rights and equality advocate.
Ms. Golakai-Gould is married with two children, a passionate gender advocate and a citizen of Africa at heart.
