Piggs Peak iHub: Powering Digital Futures
June 12, 2025
Hon. Manqoba Khumalo, Minister of Commerce Industry and Trade, cuts the ribbon as he launches the Piggs Peak iHub.
People who previously lacked access to digital services can now benefit from the newly launched Piggs Peak Innovation Hub (iHub). Officially opened on 12 June, the iHub is a digital one-stop centre designed to equip the youth, women, small business owners, and people with disabilities from Piggs Peak and surrounding areas with access to the digital world and the skills needed for lifelong learning and entrepreneurship.
The launch event was led by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Hon. Manqoba Khumalo, alongside the Minister of ICT, Hon. Savanna Maziya, and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Henrik Franklin. Located at the SEDCO premises, the iHub is a critical step in Eswatini’s broader digital transformation strategy.
The establishment of the iHub was made possible through a strong multi-stakeholder partnership:
UNDP provided funding and digital expertise under the Eswatini Youth Empowerment Programme (EYEP);
Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM), under the Ministry of ICT, ensured digital access and inclusion;
Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, contributed space and enterprise development support;
The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development (MEPD) prioritised youth and inclusive development through EYEP.
The Piggs Peak iHub is the first of its kind in Eswatini, with more hubs planned for all four regions. It is operated by Genesis 7, led by dynamic entrepreneur and innovator Mr. Sebenele Zikalala. His journey began at the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP), where he received training and mentorship.
Zikalala outlined his vision for the iHub, which aligns with the government's digital transformation agenda. The iHub aims to:
Enhance government service delivery through technological innovation;
Support start-ups with infrastructure, mentorship, and digital platforms; and,
Empower rural communities with internet access and skills, narrowing the digital divide.
“We believe that technology is not just a tool but a catalyst for transformation,” Zikalala told the guests at the launch, adding: “And that transformation must be inclusive.”

UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Henrik Franklin highlighted the iHub as a key component of EYEP, a government-led initiative funded by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development.
“UNDP is proud to support the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini to enhance governance, resilience, and public service delivery through innovative digital solutions,” said Franklin.
At the launch, Hon. Khumalo expressed appreciation to ESCCOM and UNDP for providing E2.2 million in financial support to SEDCO for the implementation of the iHub.
“This project is aligned with Pillar #6 of our MSME Policy, which seeks to improve key enabling infrastructure, especially in the areas of standards, and enhance entrepreneurs’ access to technology, including the internet and climate-smart innovations for business growth and productivity,” said Hon. Khumalo.
Adding her support, Hon. Maziya said: “To the youth and entrepreneurs of Piggs Peak, this hub is yours. I encourage you not only to explore the technology but to harness it passionately. Let this be a space where your dreams transform into reality, your skills sharpen, and your potential flourishes. Your creativity, ideas, and dedication are essential to shaping the future of our community and country.”
“Our goal is clear: no region and no person should be left behind in this digital age,” said ESCCOM CEO, Mr. Mvilawemphi Dlamini. “To the youth of Piggs Peak, you are not just the future of Eswatini – you are its present. We are with you, we believe in you, and we are investing in you.”
SEDCO CEO Ms. Khethiwe Mhlanga emphasised the significance of the iHub for the community: “This marks a significant milestone in our quest to digitize our SMEs by providing cutting-edge, high-quality internet connectivity and technology services to the incubatees, the business community and the general population in the rural area of Piggs Peak.” She added that communities were sensitised about the iHub to ensure they benefit fully from its services.
