Gender Equality

Accelerating progress on gender equality

UNDP’s Gender Equality Strategy 2022-2025, aligned with its Strategic Plan, guides UNDP in its efforts to assist countries in accelerating progress on gender equality and the empowerment of women over the next four years. It aims to move beyond piecemeal efforts and to instead help countries to shift power structures and the economic, social, and political systems that perpetuate discrimination. Deliver transformational gender equality results

UNDP recognizes that gender equality is a fundamental human right and a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. Gender equality is therefore central to UNDP’s interventions to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as other commitments agreed upon by the UN Member States. To fulfil its commitment at the national level, UNDP Eritrea developed a Gender Equality Strategy (GES) for the period of 2022-2025 which guides the country office on mainstreaming gender equality and women empowerment within the framework of the Country Programme Document - CPD (2020-2025).

The gender strategy identifies priority areas and provides entry points for gender mainstreaming in each of the CPD priorities to support national efforts to attain transformative results. It also draws on the lessons learned from the implementation of the Global UNDP Gender Equality Strategy (2018-2021) and builds upon the institutional policies and practices the organization has put in place.

In line with the Gender Equality Strategy and to convene the premises of this strategy, UNDP Eritrea CO is enrolled in the 2021/23 round UNDP corporate Gender Equality Seal Certification to deliver transformational gender equality results in the country programme.
