UNDP and the UN

Belarus was one of the states-founders of the United Nations (1945).

The UN Office in Belarus was established in autumn 1992. Since then, the country has been home to UN agencies, funds, and programmes that work as a team to respond to national development needs and improve the economic and social conditions of people in Belarus.

As of now, 11 UN agencies form the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Belarus, which is led by the UN Resident Coordinator Ms Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki.

Together with other UN agencies working in the country, UNDP signed the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2011-2015. UNDAF is the first joint strategy of UN agencies to have been prepared in cooperation with the Government of Belarus and national counterparts. UNDAF is intended to support Belarus’ priorities and to facilitate implementation of the country’s international commitments for development.
