United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) ‘will work together’ for the livelihoods improvement of the ultra-poor in the port city.
UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative Stefan Liller and ADB Country Director Edimon Ginting met with the City Mayor, Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, at his office on Monday.
During the meeting, they discussed various strategies to tackle poverty and address issues facing the ultra-poor.
CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Mohammed Tauhidul Islam presented an overview of the existing work being done to this end and future areas of cooperation.
Earlier, Liller and Ginting visited activity areas of UNDP’s community development committees at Mohra in Ward 5 and Bijoynagar in Ward 9 of CCC.
They talked with the local beneficiaries and learned about progress, including locally-led climate change adaptation initiatives. They observed infrastructural developments, WASH initiatives, alternative livelihood generation schemes, education and nutrition grant programs.
The visit is part of a UNDP, ADB joint mission to explore areas of collaboration and joint action.
“We are visiting locally-led climate change adaptation initiatives across Bangladesh with the Country Director of ADB, Edimon Ginting, and his team to explore synergies and opportunities for joint collaboration and action,” said Stefan Liller.
He was speaking after the delegation visited Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury at his office.
