Navigating Climate Governance: Insights from Young Leaders in the Asia-Pacific Region

February 13, 2026

Asia and the Pacific have the world's highest number of children and youth, constituting 60% of the global youth population. Across the region, young people are stepping away from peripheral roles and increasingly becoming active agents of change, driving negotiations, co-drafting national climate policies, and making strategic political alignments.

The report, Navigating Climate Governance: Insights from Young Leaders in the Asia-Pacific Region, captures the voices, strategies, and lived experiences of more than 1,000 young people across 35 countries. It offers a timely and compelling account of how youth are navigating, influencing, and reshaping climate governance structures.

This report was made possible through the interagency Youth Empowerment in Climate Action Platform (YECAP), as part of its Regional Youth Parliament on Climate Action (RYPCA), with support from Sweden and contributions from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (through the EmPower Programme jointly implemented with UN Environment Programme Asia and the Pacific), UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office, Climate Parliament, The Earth, and the World Assembly of Youth (WAY).
