Justice by Design: Transforming Thailand's Judicial System

May 3, 2023

In response to citizens' demand for accessible public services, the Court of Justice in Thailand, in collaboration with UNDP, the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), and Lukkid Co. Ltd, organized "Justice by Design", an eight-week workshop to promote inclusive judicial services.

The project, supported by the UNDP Judicial Integrity Network in ASEAN through the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), identified pain points of users, court officials, and citizens and co-designed court services using a people-centred approach. Based on the design thinking process, judges, attorneys, activists, and academics actively participated in developing a prototype for judicial services to improve access to justice for marginalized groups such as the elderly and persons with disability.

As a result of the collective-action approach adopted by the Court of Justice, the initiative ended with five solutions identified that will be implemented in the second and third quarters of 2023 to support the Thai judicial system with user-friendly, accessible service solutions.
