Gender Equality Seal

Overview

The Gender Equality Seal helps public institutions move from commitment to measurable institutional change. It supports gender-responsive planning, budgeting, human resources, procurement, participation, accountability and service delivery.

In Asia-Pacific, UNDP is adapting the Gender Equality Seal for city governments so municipalities can embed gender equality into how they plan, budget, manage institutions and deliver services.

In Bangkok, Thailand, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration achieved the Gold Seal with 94.8% compliance, meeting 38 of 40 benchmarks and all 13 mandatory Gold benchmarks. The Seal process helped institutionalize gender equality across more than 200 municipal projects, introduced a mandatory gender screening tool for planning and budgeting, and expanded sex-disaggregated data through the Open Government Data Portal.
