The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) took part of the project “Promoting the Legal Capacity of Persons with Disabilities in Argentina,” implemented in partnership with The Global Disability Fund (TGF).
Within this framework, UNDP’s strategy focused on incorporating the standards of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to support the strengthening of institutional capacities, generate evidence, develop tools that expand access to justice mechanisms, promote digital innovation, and strengthen the legal capacity of persons with disabilities.
What is the Global Disability Fund?
The Global Disability Fund is a partnership that brings together United Nations (UN) agencies, governments, organizations of persons with disabilities and other organizations to support the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) worldwide.
Persons with disabilities continue to face numerous economic, social, and cultural barriers that prevent them from accessing their rights on an equal basis with others, including access to justice and the ability to make legal decisions autonomously.
The Project in Argentina
In Argentina, the partnership established to implement the disability strategy brought together UNFPA, WHO/PAHO, UNDP, OHCHR, and UNICEF. Together with these United Nations agencies in the country, a diagnostic phase and a programme implementation phase were carried out.
During the first stage, the necessary conditions for ensuring the inclusion of disability considerations in policies, services, and other interventions in Argentina were identified.
During the second stage, efforts focused on advancing the implementation of the CRPD at the country level, with an emphasis on establishing the conditions necessary to mainstream disability inclusion across all sectors.
