Global Knowledge Index 2025
Global Knowledge Index 2025
February 19, 2026
The Global Knowledge Index (GKI) 2025, produced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), assesses knowledge performance across 195 countries. In a context marked by rapid technological change, artificial intelligence, climate pressures, and economic transformation, the Index examines how national knowledge systems drive resilience, competitiveness, and inclusive development.
The 2025 edition evaluates countries across six sub-indices: Pre-university education; TVET and Higher education; Research, development and innovation (RDI); Information and communication technology (ICT); Economy; and Environment, Social and Governance (ESG). Using enhanced methodology and internationally recognized data sources, the Index captures both structural strengths and emerging gaps within knowledge ecosystems.
Findings reveal persistent disparities in knowledge readiness, particularly in foundational learning, digital infrastructure, innovation capacity, and institutional quality. GKI 2025 underscores that knowledge is a strategic development asset and that coherent investments across education, innovation, and governance are essential to translate data and capacity into sustainable socio-economic impact.
