UNDP Regional Director’s Visit Reinforces Commitment to Iraq’s Development Agenda

A productive and forward-looking visit to Baghdad by Dr. Abdallah Al Dardari, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator, and Regional Director for Arab States, reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between UNDP and the Government of Iraq.
Over two intensive days, Dr. Al Dardari met with H.E. Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidy, H.E. President Nizar Amedi, H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, H.E. Deputy Minister of Planning Dr. Maher Johan, H.E. Minister of Finance Falih Sari, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mr. Haibat Al-Halbousi, senior government officials, development partners, media representatives, and leaders from Iraq’s private sector. Discussions focused on Iraq’s national development priorities and opportunities to accelerate sustainable economic growth, strengthen resilience, and create greater opportunities for all Iraqis.
The visit also underscored the breadth of UNDP’s partnership with Iraq. Over the years, UNDP has supported recovery and stabilization efforts, economic governance reforms, climate action, social cohesion, digital transformation, and institutional strengthening, working alongside national and local partners to advance sustainable development across the country.
Engagements with development partners, media representatives, and private sector leaders further highlighted the importance of collaboration in supporting Iraq’s development journey and unlocking new opportunities for investment, innovation, and growth.
