February 5, 2024

This policy brief is based on key recommendations emerging from a pre-budget roundtable co-organized by UNDP, ICREIR, and BMGF on the topic “How Budget 2024 can Provide an Impetus to Women-led Development.” The roundtable discussion was organized under the umbrella of the "Economic Policies for Women-led Development” network initiated by UNDP, ICREIR, and BMGF. The policy brief was also submitted to the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, as recommendations for the Interim Budget 2024-25.

Key recommendations in the policy brief underscore leveraging budgetary allocations to address constraints hindering women's economic participation. These include reducing the burden of unpaid care work, boosting demand for women's employment, promoting digital skilling, and enhancing urban infrastructure to facilitate women's mobility and economic engagement.
