January 21, 2026

This comprehensive value chain analysis examines sesame production and markets in Marib City (Al-Madina) District and Marib (Al-Wadi) District, Marib Governorate, Yemen. Conducted between December 2024 and January 2025, the study was implemented under UNDP's Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen (SIERY) Project, funded by the European Union.

The study assesses production constraints, market dynamics, women participation, and resilience challenges, and proposes actionable recommendations to strengthen the sesame value chain. A total of 312 value chain actors, including producers, traders, input suppliers, consumers, and institutional stakeholders, were engaged to ensure holistic insights.
