Solar Energy in Rural Uganda

January 10, 2023

One of the foundational elements of a health care system is electricity, and without reliable energy supply, the Ugandan healthcare system runs the risk of being unable to deliver essential services to its vulnerable population.  The operation of healthcare facilities, increased accessibility to healthcare, and improved quality of healthcare services all depend on reliable, inexpensive power. By recognizing the critical need for modern energy services in Uganda, the United Nations Development Programme  in partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Health and World Health Organization are electrifying 30 health facilities across the country through the Solar for Health Initiative with a main goal of increasing health facilities access to energy services across nation.
